Start a Chapter

To start a STEAM News chapter at your school, neighborhood, or community, you must first make sure to fulfill several requirements, which are as follows: 

1. There is a large enough interest in STEM writing at your school. 

This means your school can produce at least three interested writers before applying. Your job as president will be to introduce them to STEAM News, provide the link for them to sign up for articles, stay on top of your team, and facilitate communications between us chapter writers. You should also make sure that there is someone to create and run an Instagram account for your chapter.

2. Fill a monthly quota of articles. 

Each chapter must send us at least three articles per month. This may fluctuate depending on the month; however, while one or two months with fewer articles is understandable, once this becomes regular, we reserve the right to demote the status of your school as a Chapter or request new leadership from your chapter. 

If your school meets these criteria, then send us an email at theSTEAMnews@gmail.com telling us which chapter you would like to start, why you are a good fit to be a chapter president, and how your chapter meets these criteria. This email should be formal and detailed.  Upon your approval as a STEAM News chapter, we will send you a chapter package with information and resources to help you make your chapter successful. You will also be added to a WhatsApp group for you to communicate with other chapter presidents. 

As president of your school's chapter, you will work closely with our team to bring STEAM News to your school. This leadership role is active and hands-on. A chapter president must meet the following requirements: 

1. A student in high school (grades 9-12)

2. Commitment to creating a successful chapter

3. Strong writing and editing skills

4. Easy accessibility via email and WhatsApp
