Chapter Requirements
To start a STEAM News chapter in your school, neighborhood, or community, you must first make sure your chapter meets several requirements:
There is a large enough interest in STEM writing.
This means your chapter, however large or small, has at least three writers before applying. Your job as Chapter President will be to introduce your writers to STEAM News, provide the link for them to sign up for monthly articles, stay on top of them to make sure they write their articles by each deadline, facilitate communications between us and your writers, and edit all your chapter's articles before sending them to us (you may also find editors for your chapter to do this for you). You should also make sure that there is someone to create and run your chapter's Instagram account, as well as design posts for each of your articles once they are published on our website.
Fill a monthly quota of articles.
Each chapter must send us up to three articles per month. This number may fluctuate depending on the month; however, while one or two months with fewer articles is understandable, once this becomes regular, we reserve the right to temporarily remove your chapter.
Design promotional posts for all chapter articles
When someone signs up to write an article for your chapter, we will cc you or your chapter's email address in the writer's confirmation email. When the monthly chapter deadline passes, we will send all chapter presidents the monthly chapter publishing schedule. It is your responsibility to find someone to design posts to promote your chapter articles and post them on your chapter's Instagram, which you will oversee.
If your chapter meets these criteria, then send us an email at theSTEAMnews@gmail.com telling us which chapter you would like to start, why you are a good fit to be a chapter president, and how your chapter meets these criteria. This email should be formal and detailed. Upon approval as a STEAM News chapter, we will send you a chapter package with information and resources to help you make your chapter successful. You will also be added to a WhatsApp group for you to communicate with our other chapter presidents.
The Chapter Process
Once your chapter is approved and finalized, the actual process for sending us articles is as follows. Every month, our team sends out an updated article sign-up form, which has a section for each of our chapters with exclusive article topics, as well as a uniform deadline for all chapter articles. It will be your responsibility to share this link with your writers. As per the usual STEAM News writing process, once writers sign up for an article, we send them an email confirmation and cc you (or your chapter email, should you create one). Once the deadline passes, we send chapter presidents a chapter publishing schedule for the month so you can coordinate with your social media team about when to promote your chapter's articles based on when our team will publish each article.
Chapter Presidents
As president of your chapter, you will work closely with our team to bring STEAM News to your community. This leadership role is hands-on, and a time commitment. A chapter president must meet the following requirements:
A student in high school (grades 9-12)
A commitment to creating a successful chapter
Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
Easy accessibility via email and WhatsApp
